2018 – Acatama Desert, Peru
The sale price corresponds to the two elements of the diptych. The diptych photo captures the spectacular expanse of Peru’s Atacama Desert, stretching for over 300 kilometers. In the center of the first image, an abandoned site is revealed as an old copper mine, bearing witness to the region’s past industrial history. The specific treatment of the image is particularly striking, using a custom filter that transforms the image into a representation reminiscent of an engraving or drawing. Strong contrasts and deep shades of gray accentuate the textures and details of the abandoned structure, creating an atmosphere that is both austere and artistic.In each part of the diptych, sharp lines and deep shadows play with the desert light, capturing the essence of the desolation and raw beauty of this extreme environment. It’s a poignant visual reflection on the passage of time and the ephemeral nature of human activity in landscapes as vast and timeless as those of the Atacama.
