2020 – Cotentin Marshes, Normandy, France
This winter photograph captures the flooded fields and paths of the Cotentin marshes, a landscape both beautiful and steeped in history. The scene, dominated by the stagnant water covering the land, evokes the harshness of winter and the implacable nature of the marshes. Bare trees stand tall, their dark silhouettes reflected in the calm water, adding a touch of melancholy to the whole. The photographer used a custom filter to work with color and black & white, giving the image the appearance of an etching or drawing. This technique creates a rich, detailed texture, accentuating the contrasts between the diffuse winter light and the deep shadows of the natural elements. The subtle nuances and delicate lines reinforce the impression of cold and immensity of this flooded landscape. This region, marked by its history during the Second World War, is a place of remembrance. Many paratroopers drowned here, trapped by the treacherous waters of the marshes. Pigment inkjet print on Fine Art paper, supplied with Hahnemühle certificate of authenticity.
The print is laminated onto a 2 mm Dibond sheet and mounted in the floating frame to give it visual depth.
The Fine Art print is placed on neutral cardboard, then covered with a 7 cm beveled white mat and anti-reflective, UV-resistant museum glass, before being framed in black aluminum or wood (black, white, oak or wenge).
